Sofa Legs
Sofa Legs
Installing furniture feet on various furniture pieces is a great project for a first-time hobbyist or a do-it-yourself (DIY) repair. Furniture legs come in many different styles and sizes, so finding a leg or foot to match a given theme should not be very difficult. One of the first things that will need to be determined is the type of wood needed. If the legs need to match any other wooden furniture, the easiest route is to select the same wood type for the new legs. If the leg selected is not available in the same wood type, try to choose a wood type with a similar grain that can be stained to match the finish color. Osborne Wood Products offers sofa legs and furniture feet in up to 12 different wood types. Sofa feet should be stained or painted prior to being attached to the furniture, with ample drying time.
The next key component in attaching couch legs is deciding how to attach them. For example, for wood-to-wood attachment, a screw dowel is ideal. A screw dowel is a double-ended wood screw, about 4 inches long. This allows for the screw to be sunk into the furniture about two inches, as well as into the furniture leg about 2 inches; providing sturdy support. However, care needs to be taken with square legs, or legs with square parts, that they are screwed into the piece in such a way that the corners of the legs are square with the corners of the furniture. Another attachment method is a hanger bolt. A hanger bolt is threaded as a wood screw on one end - the end that goes into the feet - and a bolt on the other. This works well for wood-to-metal attachment, such as if the wooden furniture has a metal sleeve where the leg attaches, or perhaps if the bolt is going through a metal plate to be secured with a nut and washer.
Whatever the project, Osborne Wood Products, Inc. makes finding the right furniture feet easier.
