The Narrow Chesapeake Corbel does not easily resign itself to one design style alone, though many of its characteristics can compare to the Art Deco surge of the 1920s and 30s. With the flapper culture furnishing and the emphasis on the arts increasing, Europe introduced America to a design that was decorative yet functional and referred to as Art Deco. Within the States the architectural pillar of this style is the spire on the Chrysler Building (built 1928-1930). The tiered arches and triangles of the skyscraper resemble those of the corbel, while the classic bracket shape gives the piece a sense of simplicity.
